Catholic Moral Teaching on Abortion
Human life is sacred and inviolable at every moment of existence, including the initial phase which precedes birth. Abortion willed as an end or as a means, always constitutes a grave moral disorder, since it is the deliberate killing of an innocent human being (Gospel of Life, paragraphs 61 and 62).
Pastoral responses to abortion
This is the response by the Church to those affected by abortion. The Church is aware of the many factors which may have influenced this decision. What happened was and remains terribly wrong but the Church does not condemn the sinner but points to Christ who is ready to give his forgiveness and his peace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
